can I replace google reCAPTCHA with math reCAPTCHA and how ?

Did google reCAPTCHA even work with 1.8? I've spent a couple of hours searching for information on this and nobody even mentions 1.8. For me it's not showing up. Any help, suggestions would be appreciated!

Yes, you can make your own CAPTCHA plugin, see the docs here.

There are also a few different CAPTCHA plugins available here.
