How to save avatar images in original and good quality?

Hello!

I've noticed that Q2A compresses custom avatar images when I upload them, and also makes them low quality.

How can I disable this process and keep the images in original and good quality?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have just updated my Q2A to the latest version 1.8.7. Unfortunatelly there are still problems with displaying avatars on PHP 8.x. Avatars are visible in the profile pages, but our avatar in top-right corner of the screen isn't visible. How can I fix that?

After I updated PHP to version 8, avatars are no longer visible in my website, nor can users upload them, see animation below:

It throws an error message that goes like this:

The image could not be read. Please upload one of: GIF, JPG, PNG

I'm trying to show avatar at question list page and when i var_dump post, there is no avatar index in an array, but when I go to single question view, everything is fine.

What am I doing wrong.

I wrote a new theme for my site ww.biarusi.com and what annoying me is the fact that the avatars remain in the same dimension as they were uploaded by the users. This bug needs to be fixed for my theme to work well on my site. I need some help on this because on joomla and wordpress it is not an issue so it should not be an issue here.

Or is it possible to fix it using the theme?

Any help will be appreciated.

Everybody who had to deal with avatar images faced the two core functions qa_get_user_avatar_html and qa_get_avatar_blob_html. Both return the avatar image with predefined HTML code, which limits the developers options.

Instead I would like to see a simple function that only returns the avatar image as a link. And the developer can deal with the avatar image as s/he likes.

Why do I mention this?

Try to use CSS to change the existing IMG.qa-avatar-image class or other .qa-avatar-link or ... to achieve an avatar image box that: 1. has always the same size, 2. has the uploaded avatar image centered inside. I researched a lot, it is not possible with CSS and the current q2a avatar implementation.

Could someone share a mode to qa-util-image.php to add $ratio to the mix for when images are uploaded they are cropped by the ratio of 1?

If an image is uploaded that is not already aspect ratio of 1:1 ( i.e 200x200px it will ignore it and simply resize the height and ignore the width.

Example, if Profile Picture is set to 200 and I upload a 600x350 photo it gets resized to 200x200

If the Users Avatar is set to 64 it resizes it to 64x64 and so forth.

I have been trying to figure this out to set a ratio of 1 when an image is uploaded by having no luck, if I use CSS and use max-width:64; etc, since the same class is used in every location all of them changed so it needs to be done in the image upload.

I can see avatars in this Q2A forum so I know that functionality exists. However, I can't see where in the backend of my Q2A installation I need to go to enable/activate avatars. I feel a bit silly asking this question but I just can't find it at all.

After switching to an IIS Server unfortunately Q&A is not able to display avatars any more.

After a clean new installation of v.1.3.3 there is no default avatar - and I'm not able to upload any new avatars.

The table "qa_blobs" stays empty - and there is no error message at all.

Any hint is welcome...

At section, "Show default avatar" @ admin area, when uploading transparent default avatar, avatar messes up from normal to like this .

I would like to know how to remove the boxes to the left of each question, for votes and amount of answers and replace them as text only under each question.

The purpose is to provide space for an avatar. Also, are there any plans to include an avatar in this script? I have an old php profiles script which needs some repair work, but i think i can integrate the log in with Q2A, and i'm hoping that i'll be able to include the avatar from that script. Any suggestions?
