Please Help I have a white screen and don't know why.

Hello All,

I could use some help. I uploaded the files for q2a and edit the qa-config.php file. Renamed it and the .htaccess. However, I am getting a white screen. I am not getting any errors any where to tell me what is going on. The server requirements meet the requirements for q2a. Maybe I am missing something. Could anyone suggest something that I could look for?

Does Q2A work fine under PHP 8.0 and newer?

Does Q2A script work well under php 8.0, 8.1 and 8.2?

In my case there are different errors and bugs under these php versions. When using php 8.0 there are issues with displaying profile pictures and when using 8.1 or 8.2 there is error "Content encoding error An error occurred while connecting to the "(domain)" server."

The script works fine for me only under php 7.4 and older. Do you have the same problems?

Define Password Policy

Is it possible to define Password Policy? So a new user would have to follow it or existing user who change password.

How to display only categories and not subcategories inside the categories widget?

I am trying to hide the subcategories from the categories list widget but I cant make it work. I know i can simply remove this line:

'subnav' => qa_category_navigation_sub($parentcategories, $category['categoryid'], $selecteds, $pathprefix.$category['tags'].'/', $showqcount, $pathparams, $favoritemap),

but this will remove subcategories from everywhere they are listed in the site and not only from widget. I tried to override the function

qa_category_navigation_sub()

by calling it inside the widget but this also didn't work. @Ansgar and other developers of q2a could please give me some help. I am really struggling with this. Thanks in advance.

How can i create a new function for letters/characters instead of words. I want a new function like:

3 years ago, it was announced that the platform would be upgraded to version 1.9

But since that time we have not seen any development.

We hope the developers are doing well!

I suggest that $5 of each person be donated to speed up the development process?

How to send right to left emails?

I tried adding html tags with the following style attribute

style="text-align:right; direction:rtl"

in the language file qa-lang-emails.php. However it seems html is not allowed. Also tried to change the following line in qa-include/app/emails.php:

function qa_send_notification($userid, $email, $handle, $subject, $body, $subs, $html = false)

and made $html = true. Then the previous solution worked but substitutions(including ^ symbol) like ^site_title don't convert to the site title.

My website is on a shared hosting and there are limitations for sending Emails in these hosts. I need to limit the number of emails sending from my website. For example 50 Emails per hour. Is it possible?

Locking issue in Q2A Core for production sites

Q2A uses entire qa_words table WRITE lock explicitly during two major events:

1. When user creates post: qa_words table WRITE is locked.

2. When user register: Entire Tables WRITE are locked.

Disadvantage:

Due to explicit locking All SELECT operations goes to wait state for long duration untill table gets unlocked. This is causing Q2A application unavailable to the users during that time interval.

This issue happens even if we use the InnoDB storage engine because here tables are locked explicitly.

Solutions/Suggestion:

--> We should use row level WRITE locking in the query for those two events using TRANSACTIONS.

@scott please review this at your end.

Question2Answer New Logo Suggestions?

As the times move on, I think it's also time for a better, modern Logo design for Question2Answer.

I believe that with a fresh new logo design, this will inspire developers and enthusiasts to create more. Maybe even come up with a whole new theme design to fit the new logo.

I've been brainstorming over night and here's a few ideas I've come up with.

These logo ideas were created mostly with round and symmetrical shapes to represent harmony, and with the color blue to symbolize wisdom, confidence and intelligence. Which is what Questions and Answers is all about. The blue color can be changed afterwords, with the native orange if preferred, to keep the roots.

If any of these looks interesting, feel free to leave a comment below, or take some ideas to create a better version.

It would be cool if anybody with logo design skills also join this post and share your version with us.
We could vote for one we like most, and at the end work it out to make it official.

If there is < in the question body and set minimum length to 100 then you get an error: please provide more information-At least 100 character.

to reproduce:

1. In admin/posting set Minimum length of question body to 100

2. choose markdown editor as your default editor

3. Ask a question with this text as the question body:

Let x<y and Lorem ipsum, or lipsum as it is sometimes known, is dummy text used in laying out print, graphic or web designs. The passage is attributed to an unknown typesetter in the 15th century who is thought to have scrambled parts of Cicero's De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum for use in a type specimen book.

3. Send the question

How to prevent access of qa-plugin folder from browser?

How can I prevent browsers from accessing the files inside qa-plugin? for example the zip file of an uploaded plugin.
