How to create multilingual website?

Hi guys,

My website is in Bulgarian but I would like to have an option to be in English and I would like to have a few questions in English as well. I do not want to change theme or anyhing else. However, I would like to hide the questions that are non-english.

I guess I only need a subdirectory (en) and to be able to display the q2a english version there (no questions displayed). However, I am not sure how to accoplish this. Has anyone done that on their forums?

Will this code work for v. 1.7? Can anyone help me with this? Should this be a core hack or I can do it with a plugin as well? I do not want to use google translation.

I checked q2a documentation but did not come to a working solution. Has anyone tried to develop a plugin for this?

Multilingual q2a forum - Best practice?

I am considering a project, where each user group of a certain language gets their "own forum", meaning interface in their language, all posts/content in their language, so their own ecosystem.

I would like to use subdomains, e.g.

de.myforum.com
en.myforum.com
ru.myforum.com

Now I think, maybe it is a nice idea to have a common userbase (qa_users, using external users). Or if I should "merge" parts of the forums together (e.g. theme file). Or just keep them all separate...

Now I am wondering if anyone of you has already developed such a project.

Which best practices should we follow? What are issues to face?

Can install one Q2A for each language and all point to one database really work over the long run?

I would like to have multiple languages in the Q2A (eg. German question, English answer, etc.), I just need the menu, pages, etc. to be English in English site, Russian in Russian site, etc. And no Google translate if possible.

Multilanguage feature - How to achieve different language activity streams on one site

I am adding the q2a script to a multilanguage site, and want to have it working well for the searchengines as well.

I could set up different subdomains for each language with one q2a install each. But I as well would need one overview site (in each language), where the (three) different activity streams are shown. One under the other, eachwise with links to "see full language question list".

Each of the three activity streams would need to have proper language setting for SE, and the whole site would need as well the correct language settings.

You basically can reduce the problem to : How to show other language activity streams on a normal q2a install on the frontpage (either on a custom page or the normal activity page).

People need to know that there are questions and discussions in other languages as well.

Any ideas or any better solutions ?
