I understand that Q2A has multi-site options within it's core however, I couldn't get it to work. I am thinking that I am doing something wrong with the cookies. After thinking it over, I want to go another route. I want to have one site that handles all the logins and user management. The other three sites would have it's own database and run on a subdomain. I think for growth that would be the best way to go.

I am no expert on this and I am hoping that someone here as some knowledge on this. I am doing research before I do all the work and realize I did something wrong and make myself more work.

Extra fields on user pages or registration form in multiple and multilingual Q2A sites

The fact is that these fields are the same for all related multiple sites Q2A, with the same users.

I add a field on one site, it is added to others. But in the same language, how do I change the language on all sites?

1. I use mysql table '`qa_userfields`' set 'content'=NULL for standart fields

Make several q2a sites use the same plugin folders?

I am running 4 sites that have 1 user data base.

All plugins are the same, even all theme files are the same.

Generally asked, would it be "smart" to point all installations to the same ftp folders for qa-plugin and qa-theme?

Or would there be too many issues of internally wrong linking etc?

Q2A Network Sites Login Issue

I'm using Q2A on a network of sites on different subdomains. I share the same Q2A code except the qa-config.php file. And the same login works for all - if a user login to one site, he does not need to login separately for any other. But now I added 3 more subdomain sites following the same method. But now, if ever I visit any of these new sites I automatically gets logged out. Everything else is fine and manual login works fine but I'm not able to know why this logout happens only for these new sites as all sites are using the same code including the plugins (database is different except the users table).

anyone using same db and single userbase for multiple q2a sites?

Best practice for several eventlog tables and on-site-notifications?

Having a setup now, where multiple q2a installations (let's call it "network") run on the same database, with different prefixes (but shared user database), I want to achieve a "network" wide notification for events.

The events are stored per site (according to the prefix), for instance:
qa1_eventlog
qa2_eventlog
qa3_eventlog

Having the on-site-notifications plugin installed, it only checks for the events on the according site, but not network wide.

My question: Should I simply modify the on-site-notifications plugin to read all eventlog tables?

Or should I create another way of handling those events, e.g. storing all new events in a unified qa_notify_eventlog table?

What would be best practice, especially with eyes on speed.

The user database is shared over several q2a instances (A, B, C, D).

Goal:

- User 101 should become administrator of *only* forum A.

- User 102 should become administrator of *only* forum B.

- User 103 should become administrator of forums A, B and C.

As I can see, the central user database qa_users has one field "level" that obviously is valid over all instances.

So what is the best practice to have different levels for each instance?

I am in the process of creating my 3rd q2a page, all three pages running on the same DB.

Looking ahead, I fear that all sites using the same DB could lead to performance issues. Shared user table but all other tables are individual by prefix_.

Let's assume I will have 100k visitors per day in a few years...

Anyone has experience with that?

Version: 1.8.0-beta2
Configuration: 3 Q2A sites (1 database, 3 datasets, common users tables):
- http://www.problemko.com/
- http://de.problemko.com/
- http://sl.problemko.com/

Scenario:
User registers on Q2A_1 site, but is not displayed under "Users" on Q2A_2 and Q2A_3 sites, unless:
- User post a question or an answer on Q2A_2 and Q2A_3 sites, or
- Administrator executes on Q2A_2 and Q2A_3 sites: Administration center-Stats -> Recalculate user points

Is it possible to solve this in official release of V1.8?

@Scott, @pupi1985, If q2a is hosted on main domain and then other instances of q2a installed on subdomains, similar to stackexchange.com multiple subdomain sites.

example: q2asite.com main site, movies.q2asite.com, maths.q2asite.com, gaming.q2asite.com, science.q2asite.com subdomains etc.

Option1: Is it good idea to keep single db and then use solution mentioned in below answer

I guess this will make db very big. I dont know other disadvantage. how about speed of sites impacted?...

Option2: have separate db for each site and user base from main Q2A site db (q2asite.com)

What are advantages and disadvantage both option you see? is there any other better way.

Issue with Multiple Q2A sites sharing same user base

Hi, I have 2 sites:

abc.com

and

sub.abc.com

both running Q2A and using same user base. I have given

define('QA_COOKIE_DOMAIN', '.abc.com');

for both the sites. But I have an issue that when I navigate to any page on abc.com I get logged out from sub.abc.com. Any help?

I am trying to create multiple sites of q2a on the same domain.
One site will be on the root and all the other will be created in different directories.
Each site is on different directory and it has symbolic links to the source files that are in a directory outside of the public_html directory.
Each directory has its own config file which point to its own database.
I install the main site on the root and later I duplicated the database to use it in another q2a site in another directory.
The site on the root seems to work fine, but the other site doesn't function and in the error log I get the following errors:
