A few questions regarding the Q2A platform

I am contemplating starting a new project and using Q2A as the core platform (along with some plugins, etc.). I have done some deep diving into the script but still have a few lingering questions.

Is this platform still being developed by the creators and/or 3rd party developers? It appears the bulk of activity was 7-12 years ago.
Are there any active programmers available to make modifications if needed? I see a few plugins and templates trickling in, but most of these developers say they do not do any modifications.
I know this question will sting, but if Q2A is just lingering...is there any active alternatives to this script?

What is the future of question2answer?

I ask this question because of my curiosity and my observations. Question2answer lacks many essential plugins and themes. Even, the few available plugins are still in their beta version and not stable. Updates are also very slow and new plugins are not created. At least, question2answer should be aiming for the sky and try as much as possible to be close to quora. I'm saying this because I love this wonderful script and fear that it might not withstand the test if time. So, what is the future of question2answer?

Where is defined the time window used to build the updates page?

We're considering using question2answer on our site and wondering what is the best way to stay informed about new versions? (for example, if question2answer was on http://sourceforge.net then I could subscribe to the project there to get notifications).

I realize I can check the latest version in the Admin area of my q2a install, but I would like to know how I would receive notices of new versions and bug fixes automatically - i.e. by email.

Snow 1.4 is in last stage of production. I am planning to provide a copy for testing the Beta β version to the reputed users only who is running Q2A but not the Store.

Please note that, you have to run Snow 1.4 on your existing Q2A site. This will helps to get feedback from your users and also you and I can check it on the live site. This should not affect your data but just the visuals. So if ever you find this beta version has any problem, you can always revert to the current Snow theme or what you are using.

Once theme is ready for testing ( expecting by end of this week) then will send you a copy directly via your email.

Of course! you will get credit for testing including your name and website link. :)

Since I have start to work on Snow Theme 1.4 and all development updates you can find on http://snow.q2amarket.com/

To know the next update keep checking the topbar information.

I have already created many questions with different typs of content to check the styling and all Q2A Core elements. However I also need help from the community to test the theme and add required conent to the development project.

Few things I need at the startup:

At least 50-100 users in the list so if you can register with it, that would be great help to provide the list.
If you think that I left any type of question which is important, Please post it so during the styling I consider it as well.
Need some more tags, Most of the tags I have created for testing but to check the tags list page need some additional volume of tags.

If you are creating any question for the theme style testing than please add to the Theme Design category, else you can use any random category.

Once theme is ready, I will publish the databse to the community which will helps to the theme developers for testing according to the Q2A Standards. However I will remove all email address from the database before publish it.

Update 140312

Here is the very first update for Topbar and Main Nav. I am combining both to keep new design trend and make more space available to the view area.

Login form will be moved same as MaxControl Theme login section. I am thinking to add JoyRide as well same as MaxControl theme.

Heading and title fonts changed from Arial to Ubuntu in Snow 1.4.

I wil deploy on development site on this Saturday so you can test overthere.

I have just started and still long way to go, however feel free to provide your feedback by the time and if possible and fitting with my design concept I would try to consider it for this version.

Plugin: How to react to new events in "my content"

Hello my friends!

I am working at a plugin for Q&A and I need your help:

When a user published a question and someone answered, the user gets updated about the answer at "my content":

My question:

In the context of writing a plugin, how to get informed by the API, if there is a new update for a user?

I know, that I have to work with events, but is there a function I can hack, which is called every time a user update appears?

I found in qa-event-updates.php the method qa_create_event_for_q_user() - is this the function, which is called every time a user gets a new update (updates by favourites are nicht relevant for me)?

Just found a new note in the top right box: To report a bug, please ask a question with the "bug" tag. That reminds me that until today it was kind of coincidence getting informed about news of q2a.

@gidgreen: We would prefer subscribing to a RSS feed to know instantly what is new. In this way everything would be more transparent.

What about opening a mini blog where you just write only 1 or 2 lines quickly as soon as you add a feature, change something in the core, when a plugin is published etc.

Or even better: Post quick news with "news" tag here in the q2a forum. Then we could subscribe to the "news" tag: http://www.question2answer.org/qa/feed/tag/news.rss → But this requires that you, gidgreen, are using this tag =)

This "news thing" would help all the community to stick together and keep up-to-date.

Will I have a problem in the future by installing various QA with shared users?

Hi!

First, sorry for my bad english.

I want to put qa installations on differents subdomains like: cars.domain.com, pets.domain.com, etc. And I want to share their users. Same user and login for all subdomains.

Now imagine that in 6 months from now there is a new version of QA, the 1.8, and this new version change the estructure of the table qa_users. I decided to update one of my subdomains, cars.domain.com. If the table qa_users is the same for all, and I have to change because update cars.domiain.com, what about the others domains? they still working or I have to update it all at the same time?

What files will this replace? I've made a new theme, made changes to qa-lang file, etc. Wil this override my edits? I'd like to get the latest Q2A but I don't want it to delete all the changes I made. thanks

"My updates" shows questions a user has not done anything on.

This could be related to my previous question about the event streams (though it happened before I tried refilling the event streams).

Several users on my site have noted that some questions that appear in their "My Updates" that they have not had any activity on - i.e. they did not answer or comment or favourite the question.

Is there a way I can find exactly why the questions are appearing in their updates? I had a look in the database but can't get my head round what is where. Is it something inside the 'userevents' table?

UPDATE: I fixed the previous problem and ran the refill script to completion. Users are still getting unrelated questions in their updates page. How can I debug this?

It seems that q2a stopped updates for a while in comparison to previous updates frequency?

I think third party plugin system is not always compatible with the core. So al updates must collect people's features requests and accepted plugins must be a part of the core..

How to change link of "My Updates" (qa-page.php)?

Hi, using the history plugin I would like to link "my updates" to the user's history section.

In qa-page.php I found the according link at line 652:

            $qa_content['navigation']['user']['updates']=array(

How to set the user path (i. e. get username) at:

Error on "My Updates" page

When I load the My Updates page in Opera, it gets cut off near the bottom. The HTML ends right after <IMG SRC="

How do I protect qa-lang mapping during update?

The language mapping files are one of the coolest things in Q2A IMO .. very useful for customizing sites in niche applications...

Is it possible to move the qa-lang arrays to our custom theme folder and use them like our qa-theme.php? .. otherwise the lang mappings are blown away every time we update ( I think).

in our case we need to protect:

qa-lang-main.php
qa-lang-question.php
qa-lang-users.php
qa-lang-options.php

Request: A plug in that posts questions to a facebook / twitter account.

I don't know if this is possible but a feature that automatically posts questions to facebook and/or twitter would be great.

Not to to a facebook "group" but an actual account status update.

I have been posting new unanswered questions to a facebook account as "status updates" and people have been clicking on the links and adding their answers directly to the q2a instance.

I think it would be nice to automate the process if possible.
