A cinema, movie house, or movie theater, also called a video house, is a building which contains several auditoriums for screening movies for public entertainment, usually for profit. The majority, but not all, cinemas are commercially operated facilities catering to the public, who normally attend by paying a ticket for admission. The term "cinema" is derived from the Greek word meaning "a place where people watch a movie." Film companies such as Walt Disney Studios produce, market and operate cinemas throughout the world. In the United States, most major movie houses are located in large cities with wide driveways and wide parking lots, such as New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago.
