How I Customized KingMedia and Question2Answer – See It Live on AlGhorba.com

I have been working with Question2Answer (Q2A) and recently decided to take my Q2A project to another level by heavily customizing and improving KingMedia, a premium script/theme that I purchased and use as the foundation of my platform.

My goal was not simply to install KingMedia and use its default design.

I wanted to create a cleaner, faster, more modern experience while keeping the flexibility and simplicity that makes Question2Answer a great platform for building online communities.

The Result: AlGhorba.com

You can see the customized version running live on:

AlGhorba.com

AlGhorba is an Arabic community platform focused mainly on life in Spain, immigration, residency, work, workers' rights, government assistance, and other useful topics for the Arabic-speaking community.

The website started with Question2Answer, and today it runs on a heavily customized KingMedia-based design with many changes, improvements, fixes, and additional features.

For me, AlGhorba is not only a website — it is also a real-world example of what can be achieved by taking Q2A and KingMedia and adapting them to the needs of a modern community.

What Did I Change?

I have made many modifications to the original setup, including:

  • A more modern and responsive interface.

  • Better mobile experience.

  • Improved Arabic and RTL support.

  • Redesigned navigation and content presentation.

  • Improved post and article layouts.

  • Better user experience and profile presentation.

  • Custom widgets and interface components.

  • New functionality for the administration area.

  • Bug fixes and compatibility improvements.

  • Performance and usability improvements.

  • Custom Q2A plugins.

  • Additional features developed specifically for my projects.

Some modifications are small, while others required changing how different parts of the system work together.

The project continues to evolve as I discover new ideas and new ways to improve the Q2A experience.

Developing My Own Q2A Plugins

While working on AlGhorba, I often needed features that were not available in the exact way I wanted.

Instead of abandoning Q2A, I started creating and modifying plugins.

I am now working on several Question2Answer plugins and extensions that can add new functionality to Q2A and KingMedia websites.

I plan to publish some of these plugins separately, including screenshots, documentation, installation instructions, updates, and demonstrations.

Why I Still Like Question2Answer

Q2A may look simple compared with some modern community platforms, but that simplicity is actually one of its strengths.

It provides a solid PHP/MySQL foundation and can be extended through themes, plugins, widgets, and custom development.

With the right design and modifications, I believe Q2A can still be used to create a fast and modern community website.

AlGhorba.com is my own example of that approach.
