Is it possible to patch version 1.3 with the new changes from 1.4 ? Are there any data model enhancements / changes between 1.3 and 1.4 ?

Why do you need to "patch" version 1.3? Upgrading is quite easy and shouldn't change the way the system works. Any new features are usually turned off or set to basic defaults.
